In the short couple of weeks that I've posted my first videos, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge and support that you guys have thrown my way.
As I've mentioned to a couple of you, I didn't start playing until about two years ago (baseball until graduating college) and developed some pretty nasty habits. I had a wicked, wicked slice. So, I took a single lesson in hopes of correcting my problem and was encouraged to try a stronger grip (as in, left hand literally on top of right hand at address). It seemed to help. Then, as I played more, I began to realize I needed to find the magical 'slot' or 'plane' and suddenly my strong grip was creating snap hooks. I think that I ended up with such a flat swing because I overcorrected for my old over-the-top swing that produced my slicing problem... which has now led to me blocking/pushing everything to the right. Thanks to you guys, I'm starting to get that under control now, but ovbviously I need a few months worth of range sessions to really do the trick.
I don't aspire to beat AK, Tiger, or Phil one day. However, I would like to be at least average or better as a golfer because I've excelled in most other sports in which I participated. Right now I'm a 22.5 HC largely due to inconsistent ball-striking and the infamous 3 putt. If I could get down to a 12-14, I'd feel great (well, then of course I'd want to be a single-capper, then scratch, this game is so addicting).
So, I say all that to say this; thank you. Your advice and encouragement have been spectacular and in a couple weeks I've went from hopeless to optimistic. Maybe by the end of the year I can start feeling very good about my game and be more consistent with my ball-striking. I'll keep posting videos periodically and hopefully you'll have the time to offer me some constructive criticism. I'm taking notes of all that is mentioned because I don't want to forget.
Special thanks to randomhero1090, samuelwaldo, larrybud, and stackandtilt (forgive me if I left someone out).
Now, let's hit the links.
