I, like many players, typicaly setup to hit that perfect laser-like straight ball... and get super frustrated if its not exactly on. Recently, I decided to completely give up hitting it straight... on full swings. I told my self to either hit a fade or a draw, but never straight. When I do this, I found that I typically more successful. When I try to hit a fade (just mentally think fade), I will hit some sort of fade.. It may not be as much of a fade as I wanted or it might be too much, but it will fade... Same for a draw... I am particularly more consistent with draws, and I've been setting up on the right side of the green and just thinking, "draw it." Doing this has really lowered my scores. I've been shooting 71-74 typically, and one time messed around and shot a 68 (first time under par). I'm hitting a lot more fairways and greens and I'm less frustrated because I am hitting some degree of what I intended.
I am starting to think that the straight-ball is waaaaaaay overrated...

Nobody on tour hits a 'straight' ball btw....They all have ever so slight draw or fade to it

68??
Damn.. I need to start hitting more balls.
Florida's season is just about to start. I hope to get into the lower 80s this season.
I agree with what you say on the draw and fade. I have trouble hitting anything consistantly (hence my scores).

Yeah... For some reason I am having the hardest time drawing my driver, though... I am not the guy to make excuses, but I do honestly feel that is it my driver. I can shape every other club with ease...

Brandon,
Have you added a new driver or shaft? And check simple things like your ball position and posture at address to see either of those haven't slipped out of whack.

David,
No... I've had the same driver for like 3-4 years now. I need to upgrade...

Oh, and thanks for all your help thus far, David. I am finally able to get the club on the correct plane at impact. All I did was change my setup. I can do it with all of my irons, but not the woods yet.

Brandon,
The swings look very good that you've put up. The irons should be flying very much at your target now with the shaft plane being so good!

Thanks... Yeah, I finally got the driver and fairway metals working on the shaft plane.... Ball flight is lower or more penetrating.

It's longer and takes more patience in closing the clubface. Most people are still turning through impact because they're trying to generate as much speed as they can with a driver.
This is why just swinging it like a 7 iron is important. Don't try to out-rush the clubhead. Let the fact that the club is longer and has less loft on it create the distance. Need A Swing Analysis?
